DR. ANDREW W. MACDONALD
I'm currently an assistant professor of social science at Duke Kunshan University. I received my PhD from University of Oxford in Politics with a dissertation focusing on the politics of authoritarian legitimation and development in China.
My research topics of interest include development, media, and ideology and more generally survey and data issues in developing nations.
MY LATEST RESEARCH

Reza Hasmath and I investigated to what extent urban minorities in Western China find a wage gap as compared to their matched Han counterparts. We find that outsider minorities (Turkic, Tibetan) do experience a significant wage gap but others do not.

In a recent project with Dan Chen, we investigated how different media treatments impacted political evaluations of the government. One of our treatments included a sports video that had a positive and statistically significant impact on government evaluation measures.
