DR. ANDREW W. MACDONALD
I'm currently an assistant professor of social science at Duke Kunshan University. I received my PhD from University of Oxford in Politics with a dissertation focusing on the politics of authoritarian legitimation and development in China.
My research topics of interest include public opinion, media, and ideology and more generally survey and data issues in developing nations.

MY LATEST RESEARCH
My latest book, with co-authors Jason Gainous, Rongbin Han, and Kevin Wagner, investigates how the Chinese government uses internet censorship to its advantage. We use novel survey data and an investigation of Covid-era controls to better understand China's internet control strategies. The book is available here.
In a recent talk with Professor William J. Hurst, I discuss my latest research on Chinese views on online privacy. You can view a recording of the talk on YouTube.
